Summary

The Liberal Party of Canada is seeking a freelance translator for an opportunity to join an existing dedicated team of translators, staff, and volunteers to support Justin Trudeau and the Liberal team ahead of the next election campaign.

The English-French translator will be responsible for translating various projects and campaign documents for staff and management and providing effective management and interpretation guidance for the translated material.

What you’ll be doing

  • Reading the original material/documents and translating them while retaining the content, meaning, and intent of the source text.
  • Identifying and resolving issues related to the meaning of words, phrases, or concepts during the translation process.
  • Re-reading, revising, and editing final translated versions for consistency and accuracy.
  • Consulting the party’s database and reference materials to ensure the most accurate translation.
  • Liaising with the Senior Manager of Translation or coordinators regarding translation requirements and necessary clarifications.
  • Using the appropriate software for the presentation and finalization of the work.
  • Complying with the codes of ethics protecting the confidentiality of information.

You’ll need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in English-French translation or equivalent studies.
  • ATIO, CTTIC or OTTIAQ certification would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of French and English with the ability to write appropriately and professionally while considering the different writing styles and editing guidelines of both languages.
  • Good verbal communication skills in English and French.
  • Proven management skills with the ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to work variable hours including evenings and weekends.
